Assessment at Lipson Vale

All primary school pupils across the country take part in statutory assessments throughout their primary school careers. The results of these assessments are used as part of the process of measuring the effectiveness of a school in supporting pupils to become lifelong learners and meet the national expected standards.

Ongoing Assessments

Throughout the year, we informally assess pupils to check that our teaching has been effective in providing pupils with new knowledge and that learning has been remembered over time. All of teacher assessments are made using the curriculum expectations for  We do this in a variety of ways but below are some of the ways that we do this.

  • NfER termly assessments (maths, reading and grammar)

  • Accelerated Reader Star tests and ongoing book quizzes

  • Read, Write Inc ongoing reading checks

  • Asking assessment questions during lessons

  • Each lesson has a key assessment points

  • Checking learning against assessment milestones in all subjects

  • By providing precise and specific feedback during lessons

  • Reviewing learning overtime and recalling prior learning regularly (we know this help to make learning stick).
